As part of its Continuing Leadership - Governance initiative, the Karbi Anglong Baptist Convention (KABC) organized a One-Day Hands-On Workshop on Fund Accounting Using Tally Prime for Non-Profit Organizations on 10 October 2025. The workshop brought together accountants, finance officers, administrative staff, and ministry leaders from various churches and organizations to strengthen financial management practices and promote transparency in the stewardship of resources.
Non-profit organizations are entrusted with funds from donors, churches, partners, and communities. Proper financial management is therefore essential to ensure accountability, compliance, and the effective use of resources. The workshop was designed to equip participants with practical skills in implementing fund accounting systems using Tally Prime, one of the most widely used accounting software platforms in India.
The day began with an introduction to the principles of Fund Accounting, highlighting the distinction between general accounting and fund-based accounting. Participants learned how non-profit organizations manage restricted and unrestricted funds, track donor-specific contributions, and ensure that resources are utilized for their intended purposes.
During the technical sessions, participants received hands-on training in configuring Tally Prime for non-profit accounting. Topics included setting up fund ledgers, creating charts of accounts, enabling cost centres for project tracking, and recording donations, grants, and project expenditures. Practical exercises allowed participants to simulate real-life NGO scenarios and gain confidence in managing financial transactions within the software.
A key focus of the workshop was the generation of fund-specific and donor-specific reports. Participants learned how to prepare fund utilization statements, project-wise reports, donor ledgers, cost centre summaries, and audit trails. The importance of maintaining transparent financial records and meeting donor and regulatory compliance requirements was emphasized throughout the sessions.
The workshop concluded with interactive hands-on exercises, question-and-answer sessions, and participant feedback. Attendees expressed appreciation for the practical approach of the training and its relevance to the day-to-day financial management needs of churches, schools, and non-profit organizations.
